There’s no shortage of fun at National TrailFest, the event area is jampacked with fun activities and entertainment each day and night. You’ll find everything from awesome food vendors, parts vendors, demo rides and an assortment of kid’s activities including inflatable playhouses, a rock-climbing wall and a mini train ride.
Several aftermarket parts companies like Seizmik and ITP Tires and Wheels were on site displaying their latest products, it was great to catch up with our friends from each company and talk UTV parts and accessories.
Honda was present displaying a few of their latest machines including the new 4-seater Talon SxS.
Honda’s demo team was also on site with a fleet of Honda Talon UTVs, it was only natural that we took a Honda Talon 1000X for a test ride on the Hatfield-McCoy trails; oh, what fun!
Each evening the crowd would gather at the obstacle course / drag strip area, attendees had the opportunity to put their machines to the test racing the drag strip and running the obstacle course that featured some gnarly whoops, jumps, a rock section and a mud pit.
There was also live music on Friday and Saturday night in this area, it was fun to watch the action on the course and jam to some good tunes at the same time.
Every year on Saturday evening of the event is the annual parade. ATVs, UTVs and homemade floats filled the streets decorated with a Halloween theme, it was so fun to see all the different floats and costumes.
One of our favorite floats from the event was this over the top Can-Am Maverick X3, a lot of work went into converting this rig into a coal train; what creativity!
One of our days at the event we went to a popular local BBQ joint just outside of town: Trail 12 BBQ. Not only was the food great, we ran into our friends from Axiom Side By Side to enjoy our meal with. More than just a BBQ place, Trail 12 BBQ is located at the Twin Hollow Campground with trail head access, naturally we checked out some trails in the area. The location is also the home to Mountain Top Adventures, an ATV and SxS rental place that features guided tours and even fly-fishing adventures.
Another awesome perk about stopping in at Mountaintop Adventures is that they had the new Kawasaki KRX 1000 in their fleet of rental units. Not only was this the only KRX in town, it is probably the only rental KRX in the nation at this time. We had the opportunity to check the machine out and take it for a short cruise up the mountain for a photo shoot. BIG THANKS to Mountaintop Adventures / Trail 12 BBQ, we had such a blast!
An off roading mecca, the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System is made up of seven major trail systems (Rockhouse, Pinnacle Creek, Pocahontas, Indian Ridge, Buffalo Mountain, Bearwallow and Devil Anse) featuring hundreds of miles of trails that spread across nine counties in West Virginia. Many of the main loops are old coal mining access roads with a variety of trail systems that branch off. The mountainous terrain offers a variety of riding for all skill levels ranging from easy to very difficult.
All in all, National TrailFest was a huge success. From epic trail riding and awesome scenery to the area’s rich history, you can expect excellent riding with plenty of fun things to learn and do. Not only do they love to share their annual home event with others, the people of Gilbert are so welcoming and hospitable, we guarantee you’ll feel right at home. We encourage you to put National TrailFest on your bucket list of UTV adventures and join the fun next year for the 20th anniversary. See you at National TrailFest 2020, you’re going to love it.
