While UTV’s can be great for work or entertainment, safety should never be overlooked. It is important to remember the basics when operating such a vehicle. There are a few safe practices that should be followed and adopted with the use of such equipment.
First and foremost, the user must get familiar with the UTV before operating it. Becoming familiar with your UTV can be done through reading the owner’s manual or watching training demonstrations, online or in person from someone with experience.
Perhaps one of the most important rules, once you have become acquainted with the side by side vehicle, is to never operate such equipment under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Driving impaired can lead to accidents and serious consequences.
Much like driving an automobile, it is important to avoid distractions while driving a UTV. Cell phones should not be used while operating your ride. Listening to music through headphones or ear buds can be just as distracting.
Seatbelts should always be worn while riding in a UTV, whether you are the driver or a passenger. It is also important to keep arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times while the UTV is in motion.
Use caution when backing up. Check for young children and/or pets that may wander into your path while in reverse.
When you follow these guidelines for side by side safety you can perform work or entertaining rides with greater ease and less room for error!
