UTV Takeover expanded their popular chain of SxS events once again by taking the fun to Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane Utah, October 21st – 25th, for the first annual UTV Takeover Utah! This event was nothing short of AWESOME! With a ton of fun activities on the schedule, rides, races, and entertainment to the max, UTV Takeover boasted a full-fledge weekend of fun for the whole family.
Like all UTV Takeover events, there was hardly any downtime as the event schedule was jampacked full of activities. From the Sand Drags and Short Course Races to the Huckfest competition, Show N Shine, Stereo Competition and so much more, the entertainment seemed endless. Best of all, attendees didn’t have to just be spectators, anyone could enter and participate in the fun (be sure to check out our Huckfest video at the bottom of this article).
More than just SxS actives, there was plenty of stuff to do out of your machine. You could find a ton of fun things to participate in like Group Campfires, Rock N Roll Bingo, a Tire Toss Competition, Daily Raffles and they even have a Kids Zone for the little ones.
Each morning there were daily guided rides with local guides. There were 10 groups attendees could join, each trekked through one of the many amazing routes Sand Hollow has to offer. Of course, we joined in for a guided trail ride and it was awesome! From rock crawling to sand dunes, Sand Hollow was quite an experience! Not to mention the amazing views in just about any direction.
We took the West Rim trail which had some gnarly obstacles and awesome panoramic views. Each obstacle had an alternate way around so you didn’t have to do it if you weren’t up to it (some were definitely sketchy) but many folks in our group were up to the task; which was great for our photos. The trail loops back around to the sand dunes and to a few popular lookouts. So, we hit the dunes and did a little sandslingin’ on the way back to camp.
Vendor Row at UTV Takeover Utah was huge! There, you’d find a ton of UTV parts and accessory companies, like Maxxis Tires, Rugged Radios, Super ATV, Bombshell Gear, GBC Motorsports, MSA Offroad Wheels, EFX Tires, KMC Wheels, Fuel Off-Road & ZBroz Racing just to name a few. There were also several great food vendors to get your grub on and you could hang at the UTV Takeover Tent where a lot of fun actives took place.
There were a few off road celebrities in the house too, like UTV stunt man Al McBeth, YouTuber and social media influencer Blake Wilkey, 12 year old stunt man and pro UTV racer racer Ruslan Yankilevich and pro UTV racer Wes Miller.
We actually took a hot lap with Wes Miller on one of the park’s fast sweeping sand trails that included some sick berms. Wes invited us to hop in the passenger seat of his Polaris RZR desert race car, it was so much fun to ride along with a professional off-road racer! Thanks Wes, it was a blast!
On that same ride, we hopped in with Steve from Rugged Radios in the Rugged Radios’ Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000. Steve has a racing background and put the pedal to the floor in the KRX, he was definitely fun to ride with. The mostly stock machine with 35” tires was pretty impressive; we rode pretty hard yet it felt surprisingly smooth and handled well. Of course, communication with Steve on the trail was great thanks to the Rugged Radios Intercom System, we had a lot to chat about. Communication with our group in the desert was pretty important too, of course Rugged Radios had that covered with Car to Car Radios in everyone’s machines.
One of the biggest attractions at the event was Al McBeth’s world record jump attempt. Al already held the world record for longest sand to sand jump in a UTV at 215 feet, he achieved that at UTV Takeover Oklahoma. Al attempted to beat his own record at Sand Hollow, unfortunately it didn’t go as planned and Al nosed dived into the landing resulting in several roll overs (check out the video at the bottom of this article).
When it comes to safety equipment, Al uses the best in the business. Amazingly, Al was able to walk away from this brutal crash with no injuries. We’re glad he’s OK! We suspect he’ll be ready to beat his record at the next UTV Takeover.
Sand Hollow State Park is a premier rider’s destination and a great place for a UTV Takeover. The 20,000 acre park is an off-road mecca with over 6,000 acres of OHV usage and features massive sand dunes, incredible rocky trails, rock crawling obstacles and breath taking panoramic views in about every direction. The amazing red sand and red rock will have you feeling like you’re riding on another planet. The park also features a beautiful reservoir for boating, fishing, swimming, and other water sports. Plus, you can stay on site with ease, the state park has several full hook-up RV sites, primitive camping, bath houses and a pro shop.
All in all, UTV Takeover Utah was a huge success! We had so much fun at this event, the activities were never ending and it was great to catch up with our Takeover friends as well as make new ones. Sand Hollow is an amazing place to ride, putting it on your bucket list is a must! We recommend putting this event on your schedule and joining us at UTV Takeover Utah 2021!
Don’t forget UTV Takeover happens across the country, not only is there a Utah event, but they also have Takeovers in Oregon, Oklahoma and Virginia. Be sure to check the UTV Takeover website for 2021 dates. Learn more at – https://www.utvtakeover.com/
