Without further ado, let’s get this trail blazing party started with some of the best ride experiences the topography of West Virginia has to offer, in no particular order.

The Bearwallow Trail System is one of the OGs of the Hatfield & McCoy circuit. The terrain ranges in novice, amateur, and expert paths. Bearwallow nabs its “best UTV trail in WV” status title because it houses extreme riding and single-track trails. However, there’s also a good mix of scenic routes and laid-back riding courses.

What’s great about Bearwallow is that along the adventure you’ll find lodging, restaurants, and fuel. Plus, nearly any vehicle is welcome including ORVs, ATVs, UTVs, and motorcycles.

Buffalo Mountain ATV Trails is one of the most historic unbeaten paths on the Hatfield McCoy system and includes the largest amount of difficult single tracks and trails in the system. Find around 100 miles to adventure on with windy bends and deep forestry.

This circuit passes through three different communities that offer lodging, fuel, and dining options. This destination is considered a fan favorite, dragging riders in from across the country.

Pinnacle Creak Trailhead, part of the Hatfield McCoy system, has approximately 80 miles of that connect to Indian Ridge Warrior and Pocahontas trails. It ranks as one of the best West Virginia UTV trails because it has several creek adventures with adrenaline-charged trailing, complete with amazing forest scenery and even access to white water rafting, if that’s your thing.

This West Virginia trail has lots of parking, restrooms, and a staffed office that provides permits. Also, you’ll find direct access to fuel, food and lodging.

Indian Ridge Trailhead is a new trail amongst the Hatfield McCoy beaten paths. It consists of 63 miles of scenic mountain trails with intermediate obstacles. However, most of the experience is laid back and all about enjoying the landscape.

One setback of this trail portion of the best West Virginia UTV trails, is that you can’t obtain a permit on-site nor is there access to lodging, food, or fuel. That being said, Ashland Resort is right around the bend complete with RV accommodations, camping sites, cabins, cottages, lodges, and a general store with food and basic ATV / UTV gear. It also connects with the Pinnacle Trail, which features food, lodging, and fuel.

Terrain: mud, hard packed surfaces, jumps

Little Coal River, now privately owned, rests in Lincoln County, West Virginia. This park has outstanding topography. Enjoy river scenery and, of-course, mountain terrain adventure. Like most best West Virginia UTV trails, this also connects the Hatfield McCoy System.

Mountwood-Park

Mountwood Park, an entity of its own, has 23 miles of prime real estate of scenic West Virginia hills pathways and forestry. These trails are open from dusk till dawn for off-road enthusiasts of all types. Find trails for easy to intermediate riders with some more challenging obstacles for those who dare.

This adventurous location includes full-service camping with RV hook up and tent sites. There are even some camping areas with direct access to the trail system. We call that a huge win in our book.

Miles: 23 sq. miles

Terrain: loose surface, mud, hills

Cost: Daily per person $12 / over 18 season pass per person $50 / 17 and under season pass per person $25

Burning Rock Off-road Park is the best of both worlds when it comes to ride style. They have family friendly loops with over 100 miles of fun to be had. On the other hand, they have thousands of acres of forestry “send it if you dare” terrain.

The park includes guided tours, tent and RV parking, cabins, and a general store that provides permits. Additionally, they’ve added a peewee motocross track and an expert track with several gnarly jumps.

Cost: Daily 15 and up per person $25 / 6-15 per person $15
