UTV Takeover returned to Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure in Gundy, Virginia for the second annual UTV Takeover Virginia event July 22nd – 26th! We got our rear in gear and joined in on the fun. Despite a little rain, the event couldn’t have been a bigger success with thousands in attendance, UTV Takeover put on a jampacked weekend full of great riding, awesome entertainment and fun activities for the whole family.
If you’re a SxS fanatic and are not familiar with UTV Takeover, you might be living under a rock. Literally taking over the nation with first-rate side by side events, UTV Takeover currently has 4 major events across the country, with locations in Coosbay, Oregon, Hurricane, Utah, Waynoka, Oklahoma and Grundy, Virginia. With plans to continually expand, don’t be too surprised to have your region get taken over by these guys in the near future.
One thing that makes a UTV Takeover so great is a loaded schedule of events, Virginia was no different, drag races, short course racing, mud bog racing, hill climb competitions, group rides, raffles, live music and the list goes on, there’s definitely no shortage of activities to watch and participate in. It was great to see Virginians as well as out of state riders having so much fun competing in some of these awesome events.
Up on vendor row, you’ll find a variety of food vendors to get your grub on as well as a several UTV aftermarket accessory companies like Wheel Pros (MSA Offroad Wheels, EFX Tires, KMC Wheels, Fuel Off-Road, ZBroz Racing), Super ATV, Maxxis Tires and Rugged Radios just to name a few. Obviously, we love aftermarket accessories, so it was great to visit with vendors and check out some of the latest SxS products.
There were a few OEMs on site offering demo rides and displaying their latest side by sides, you may recognize them. Kawasaki had a great set up and a large fleet of Kawasaki KRX 1000s for attendees to take for a spin.
CF Moto was present as well; they had the new ZForce 950 Sport with them; it was pretty cool to get to check out the new machine.
Yamaha was in the house too; they had a few Wolverine X2s and Wolverine X4s as well as some YXZ 1000Rs to test ride.
Quickly growing as a favorite ride spot, Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure should be on every rider’s checklist. Nestled in the mountains of Southwestern Virginia in Poplar Gap Park, Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure is a great place for a UTV Takeover as it is located at the trailhead for the Spearhead Trails Coal Canyon ATV/OHV/Mountain Bike Trail. This multi-trail system offers hundreds of miles of riding through the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. The trails are very well taken care of and offers a variety of riding for all skill levels. From the quick elevation changes, creek bottoms and mountain top panoramic view, it’s easy to fall in love the trail system and area.
Furthermore, Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure is a great place to stay, featuring cabins, full hook-up RV sites and plenty of primitive camping. There’s also a bathhouse with showers, restrooms, a laundry mat and vending area. The campground mountain view is absolutely awesome with an abundance of wildlife, we even spotted a herd of elk on our stay.
There’s no doubt we had a great time, the second annual UTV Takeover Virginia was definitely one for the books! Great people, great riding and a full-fledged awesome event, what more could you ask for? We recommend putting UTV Takeover Virginia 2021 on your calendar, see ya next year!
