Offroad enthusiasts from across the nation traveled to the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreational Area in Southern California to join thousands of duners in a So Cal tradition of spending Halloween weekend at Glamis. It’s the ultimate kickoff party of the sand dune season for riders in the west and for the past 5 years has been the home to Camp RZR.
The Imperial Sand Dunes, often referred to as Glamis, is the northern part of Algodones Sand Dune system. Covering 1,000 square miles, it is one of the largest dune complexes in North America and is a duner mecca with more than 150,000 acres of rideable sand dunes; the vast OHV riding area is a premier off-road heaven for many. There’s no telling what you’ll see, from stock to ridiculously tricked out, you’ll find a variety of off-road vehicles including some custom machines and some of the sickest side by sides in the west. From small dunes and whoops sections to some of the largest dunes in the nation, Glamis offers something for everyone.
Many duners camped out for several days to get their fill of sand riding, RVs, campers, toy haulers and tents filled the area creating what was almost like a mini city. Riders also gathered in select hangout areas, thousands of people lined up their vehicles to watch duners make a run down the drag strip throughout the day and congregated to the bottom of one the biggest dunes in Glamis, Oldsmobile Hill, for a wild party after sunset.
Stationed at the northern tip of the Glamis Sand Dunes resided Polaris’ Camp RZR Village, inside you could find a variety booths, displays, organized entertainment and a ton of cool UTVs to check out. Industry vendors like S&B Filters, MTX Audio, MB Quart, Rockford Fosgate, SSV Works, Rigid Industries, Pro Armor and PRP Seats were present displaying awesome UTV builds, some of their latest products and even giving out freebies to attendees.
Collaborating with several companies and industry vendors, hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes where given away throughout the weekend as attendees took their chances at winning in a variety of contests. Polaris even gave away brand new Polaris RZRs to a few lucky winners.
Polaris lined up a ton of action and entertainment too, including demo rides of the latest Polaris side by sides and a Show N Shine contest featuring some sick UTV builds and race cars. That’s not all; 10–time AMA National Observed Trials champion Geoff Aaron was present putting on one hell of a show at the Geoff Aaron Red Bull Demo, Geoff displayed some very impressive trials riding skills throughout the weekend. To wrap up the event, there was even a free concert by country music star Jake Owen.
Camp RZR is obviously organized and sponsored by Polaris but that doesn’t mean that it’s a “Polaris only party”, just outside the village, OEMs like Yamaha and Can Am were also present with fleets of side by sides offering demo rides giving riders a chance to experience their latest machines. Can Am even had a few celebrity racers present, like S3 Racing’s Dustin “Battle Axe” Jones and Shane Dowden and Offroad Racing Champion BJ Baldwin, to meet and greet with fans and do a little riding as well.
Even more vendors like STI Tire and Wheel and Rugged Radios set up outside the Camp RZR village as well; not to mention a variety of souvenir shops and awesome food.
There’s no doubt on Halloween weekend Glamis is the place to be, Camp RZR was a huge success and we had a ton of fun. Mark your calendars and join us next year for Camp RZR Glamis 2017, we guarantee you’ll love it.
